What strikes me in the next sentence is the use of "grave" this is clearly a toxic relationship, one neither can get clear of, both are looking for warmth and love and yet only getting pain and death. He expresses his own emotional weakness, his own inability to be the same person he sees of himself compared to what others see of him, of course this is dangerous and disfunctional and where the emotional damage occurs and ultimately its the young woman who states, "your like a dagger stick me in the heart and taste the blood from my blade" alot of pain in that, we have all lived this one time or another, being broken hearted. Will it all remain unchanged? " if I close me eyes I won't see the inevitable, I won't be responsible for reality and can live the excitement that this forbidden relationship represents. The chorus is stating the same things with a twist of words. The male, clearly older, to her wiser, more worldly who probably has had a "real" relationship at one point or another in his life "heaven is in the palm of my hand, and its waiting here for you," knowing she is unstable, young and the whole situation is a disaster in the making states, "what am i supposed to do with a childhood tragedy? " he can give her heaven but he knows she couldn't take it. She claims her uncertainty, she questions weather her love is real or just a fantasy. We all want love, many times we find it in the wrong places, we may even know it up front but we can help ourselves. (opening part) a young woman, confussed, unsure and yet willing and wanting to be in love. I just love this song and it brings a valcano of emotions, some that I feel I've lived in past relationships, some that I can only empathize, knowing how it feels to love someone and have things stand in the way of its ultimate success, so here is my intellectual evaluation of this song's meaning.
